UNCASVILLE, Conn. (February 22, 2011) — East Lyme High School has been selected as the Connecticut Sun High School Girls’ Basketball Team of the Week, presented by Camaro Signs of Yantic, for the week of February 14-20th.

The Vikings advanced to the semifinals of the Eastern Connecticut Conference girls’ basketball tournament with a 62-46 victory over defending champion Norwich Free Academy on February 19th. Allison Stoddard led No. 5 seed East Lyme with 20 points and seven assists while Michelle Lagrotteria and Jenna Schumacher joined her in double-figures with 17 and 12 points respectively.

East Lyme, which outscored NFA 21-14 en route to victory, defeated Lyman Memorial 60-39 on February 17th to advance. The Vikings are now 15-6 on the season.

This is the fifth season the Connecticut Sun has recognized a Team of the Week. Each winner will receive a commemorative plaque and a congratulatory letter from Connecticut Sun coach Mike Thibault.

The Team of the Week is part of a series of initiatives undertaken by the Connecticut Sun to highlight local high school girls’ basketball, where future WNBA stars are already competing. The Sun have also hosted the CIAC Championship luncheon and the four state title games, and the team will recognize all of the teams of the week during a regular season game during the 2011 season.
