Monica Wright Named to All-Rookie Team

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL –MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL – The WNBA today announced that Lynx guard-forward Monica Wright has been named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team. Wright, along with Connecticut's Tina Charles, led all players in voting with 11 votes.

Wright, selected second overall in the 2010 WNBA Draft by the Lynx, finished among the top three rookies in scoring (2nd, 11.1 ppg), rebounding (3rd, 2.9 rpg), assists (3rd, 1.5 apg), three-point accuracy (2nd, .340 percent), free-throw accuracy (2nd, .819 percent), steals (3rd, 1.0 spg) and minutes (2nd, 25.5 mpg). Her 32 made three-point field goals led all rookies. Playing in all 34 games for the Lynx, starting 24, the 5-10 guard-forward scored in double figures 19 times, including a career-high and rookie-high for the season with 32 points in a 92-82 win over the Phoenix Mercury on June 1. The 32 points is the top mark by a reserve in Lynx history, and the third-highest total in WNBA history.

New York Liberty guard Kalana Greene, Connecticut Sun forward Kelsey Griffin and Chicago Sky guard Epiphanny Prince were also named to the All-Rookie squad.

The voting panel consisted of the WNBA’s 12 head coaches, who chose five players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Wright and Charles each received 11 votes, while Greene, Griffin and Prince each got 10.

Wright's selection marks the fifth consecutive year the Lynx have had a representative on the All-Rookie Team. Seimone Augustus (2006), Lindsey Harding (2007), Nicky Anosike and Candice Wiggins (2008), and Renee Montgomery (2009) were also named to all-first-year squads.
