FINAL FREE AGENTS ADDED TO FEVER ROSTER; TRAINING CAMP OPENS MONDAY
The Indiana Fever opens 2010 training camp Monday with an administrative team meeting followed by its first official practice at 2:00 p.m. The club also announced the additions of Ashley Battle, Michelle Campbell and Meredith Marsh to its training camp roster.
The Fever returns 10 of 11 players from its WNBA Finals roster of 2009, but opens camp without the services of many of its veterans whose winter seasons overseas are just concluding. All five projected Indiana starters, in fact, are taking part in Turkish League playoffs which began last week and may run as late as May 8.
Late invitees to camp include Battle, a five-year WNBA veteran who played the past four seasons with the New York Liberty, and Campbell, who has been the Turkish League’s leading scorer this season with 21.4 points per game. Battle helped Connecticut to three straight NCAA championships and was a 2005 draft pick of the Seattle Storm. Campbell is a 6-2 center who enters her third WNBA training camp after coming out of Rutgers in 2006. She was in camp with the Washington Mystics in 2006 and the Detroit Shock in 2008, but has not played in a regular season game. Marsh is a point guard from Vanderbilt who helped the Commodores to the NCAA Tournament second round in 2010. She is one of three former Vandy teammates in the Fever camp.
Training camp continues with practices through May 14. The Fever participates in two preseason games before opening the regular season against the Washington Mystics, May 15 (7:00 p.m.) at Conseco Fieldhouse. A preseason home game is May 7 against the Chicago Sky (12:00 p.m.) as the Fever hosts Kids Day featuring Choices for Champions in partnership with the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. The Fever concludes its preseason schedule at Chicago on May 10.
